Hi Guys,
I am super excited about this post because I get to introduce all of you to one of my best friends and her talent. Liz Donnelly is a phenomenal photographer, fashionista and amazing friend. She actually photographed my wedding two years ago. She is capable of capturing any moment including weddings, fashion, all animals but especially dogs, etc. Recently she photographed a fashion show here in Portland Maine. Below are her beautiful photos as well as an interview!
Liz Donnelly
A: I knew from a young age that I would be a photographer when I grew up. I think I was about 6 years old when I asked for a camera for my birthday. It was disposable but I loved it, I shot everything and anything. The pictures were awful but I didn't care! The rest is history and I made it all happen. Passion goes a long way.
Q: What do you enjoy shooting?
A: Abstract architecture has peaked my interest in the past couple years. I went to New York City and realized it was my playground for making art and that is exactly what I have been doing. Photography is not only my job but still also very much an outlet. Even after a days work, I may still need to go photograph something that continues to fuel my inner artists fire.
Q: What makes photographing fashion different than say, weddings, dogs etc?
A: Fashion is an intersection between two arts. On my end, I can concentrate on my creativity without having to give much direction to the subject. Its a free flowing process with a seamless outcome. Weddings & dogs are photographed in a more "behind the scenes" point of view. I like to capture moments that are genuine, pure & not contaminated by my presence or instruction.
Q: Tell us a little bit about this fashion show you shot recently?
A: The fashion show was extraordinary. The entire process from hair/makeup to runway show, was presented in the large display windows of the salon/boutique with the public being able to view from the outside. I was more interested in capturing the models before they hit the runway in a natural, non glamorous light. There is a raw beauty there that I find very intriguing & the result still ends up stunning.

Q: How would you describe your personal fashion?
A: My fashion sense runs all across the board. I do hold a reputation for wearing a lot of black, but only because I just really like the color! I think I may get away with it better than others because of my job title but either way, I have no problem looking like I'm going to a funeral everyday. I pretty much throw on what I think looks good, but not necessarily what everyone else is wearing.
Q: Do you run a website or studio?
A: I do have a website www.lizdonnellyphotography.net of course in this day and age, a website is crucial to the success of your business, its a modern day business card & lucky for me, also my portfolio. I do have an in home studio but when it comes to bigger productions, I rent studio space. Most of my work is conducted on location, as I prefer it to be.
Q: Where do you hope photography takes you in the future?
A: I really just hope to grow everyday & meet more amazing people along the way. Waking up every morning & knowing that I am doing what I love, is the key to success & happiness even if you aren't successful. I am already living my dream & anything extra is frosting on the cake for my future!
Hope everyone has a good week :)
Xx
