Six Questions On Saturday

Good Evening Loves!

So I almost didn't get this posted on Saturday, but I made it! It has been a crazy few days.. but I am excited to be headed north on Monday for a mini vacation and some lovely girl time :)

Tonight I bring you another excellent Maine blogger. I first met Ashley from Sweet William at Akari the salon I model for. Ashley styled the first shoot I worked on and every single piece of clothing she put on me I wanted to run away with. She is fashion educated and straight up fabulous, check out her six questions:
1. Have you always been interested in a career in fashion? When did your passion start?
I always loved fashion and experimenting with clothes, but it wasn't till college that I really knew I wanted to make a career out of it. I worked in retail since I was 16, but when I was a sophomore in college I really got into merchandising and learning to do some buying.

2. What was it like to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology?
FIT was amazing. But just like all my years of schooling, I wish I had given it 110%. I loved living in New York City. The energy of that city is unlike anything else. I got to meet a lot of cool people, go to really amazing events, and really learn about the aspects of the industry I loved.

3. How would you describe Maine style?
I think Maine style is something of a mixed bag. There are a lot of people who have a very classic, preppy look and right next to them will be someone dressed in true Mainer fashion, the rugged outdoor worker. The real Mainer look has recently been seen on runways and in high end stores but it's nothing like the people here who have to dress this way to do their daily jobs. And on the other spectrum, mostly in the portland area, you see people experimenting with a more fashion forward look, taking risks and having fun. I think Maine gets looked over as being a stylish place but it is really making a name for itself.
4. Who and where do you find inspiration for your own personal style?
I get inspiration from almost everything. Magazines, runways, but mostly from real people with real style. I like to mix the past and present and even take color palettes from works of art and the outdoors. I can take inspiration from anything that catches my eye and changes the way I feel.

5. Where are your favorite places to shop?
My favorite places to shop are thrift stores, vintage stores, especially goodwill! I love to find on trend or classic pieces that no one else is going to have. I like to take vintage and pair it with modern pieces and give things with a past a new story to tell. I also like Bliss, Black Parrot (more of an aspirational store), urban outfitters, anthropologie, madewell, j crew.
6. Where do you hope to see yourself in the future in terms of fashion?
In the future, I hope to have a shop and a creative space that can be used to give back to those in need. But for right now, I am having a lot of fun running the women's department at urban and growing as a merchant and stylist.
