Six Questions On Saturday

Good Afternoon Loves!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. I will be working a bunch, but am excited to sneak in some wedding planning with my newly engaged friend!

You have all seen my beautiful cousin Jamie here on 87Life. Her outfits are to die for, but I thought you all might like to get to know her a bit better! Here are Jamie's six questions:

1.)Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am a 28 year old who hails originally from Maine, but has spent the majority of my twenties being nomadic. Most significantly I have lived in Boston, GO SOX, haha, and the beautiful Sarasota, FL. I've lived and loved each and every place I've been, Chicago holds a special place in my heart, great memories. I am a lover of food, music, my family and horses! I think I've spent more time in a saddle than not, honestly, haha. Most recently, my life has been consumed with recovery from an accident that took a good part of my left hand, but none of my heart and soul!!

2.)Describe yourself using five words?
Oh man, this is tough! Hmmmm, Stubborn, Accepting, Independent, Sarcastic, Intelligent.
You should know that is a really hard question, haha!

3.)What is your favorite pass time?
Well, I have many. But, for the sake of being succinct, I would have to say anything involving horses! I am very passionate about my dog Gator, who I rescued from a kill shelter in FL. he's got the soul of a human, I swear. I love to read and write and eat delicious food!

4.)What is it about fashion that draws you in?

The ability to re-create yourself over and over. We evolve on our journey through life and fashion is something that you can use to outwardly express that evolution. Very cool. I think I draw this connection from my love of chameleons, fashion allows us all to be chameleons!

5.)What accessory can you not live without? (Shoes, handbags, jewelry etc.)

Oh, I have to pick just one!?! Definitely shoes! But statement rings are a VERY close second. Love them! So back to the shoes...sounds very un-fashion like, but I can't live without flip flops. I do love a sexy heel, espadrilles and boots that were made for walking, haha.

6.)What do you hope to bring to 87Life?
87Life already offers a fresh perspective on fashion and life. I hope to bring my eclectic influence and a little bit of all the places and people I've loved. Oh yeah, and of course my LOVE of fashion!!

DIY: TV Stand

 Hello Loves,

So sorry I haven't posted in a while. I didn't mean to miss my normal "Six Questions on Saturday"but life just got so busy. I have been catching up with old friends and working nonstop on my house! I love that my home is starting to reflect me.

Speaking of housework, here is my latest DIY. I have never liked this TV stand, but I didn't want to buy a new one. I decided to make a background to hide the wires and was super pleased with how it came out!
TV stand before
Supplies: Glue, mod podge, scrapbook paper and poster board

Cut out the design or pattern you want, glue and mod podge to poster board, attach and your finished!
The final product!

This project cost me less than 10 dollars and helped to really tie the room together!

Wrap Me In Feathers

Hello Loves!

So clearly this outfit was worn about a month ago. The husband and I kept our tree up as long as we possibly could, it was so big and beautiful.

Anyways, as most girls know it is important to have staples in your closet. One of the biggest being a blazer. I have been in search for the perfect, casual blazer for a long time and though I am not sure if this one is perfect it is pretty darn close!
Blazer: H&M $24.95
This amazing headwrap was given to me by my beautiful cousin Jamie who is featured on 87Life regularly. We all know I am a feather freak and love adding this wrap to any outfit.

I hope everyone is having a lovely week!

Six Questions On Saturday

Good Evening Loves!

So I almost didn't get this posted on Saturday, but I made it! It has been a crazy few days.. but I am excited to be headed north on Monday for a mini vacation and some lovely girl time :)

Tonight I bring you another excellent Maine blogger. I first met Ashley from Sweet William at Akari the salon I model for. Ashley styled the first shoot I worked on and every single piece of clothing she put on me I wanted to run away with. She is fashion educated and straight up fabulous, check out her six questions:
1. Have you always been interested in a career in fashion? When did your passion start?
I always loved fashion and experimenting with clothes, but it wasn't till college that I really knew I wanted to make a career out of it. I worked in retail since I was 16, but when I was a sophomore in college I really got into merchandising and learning to do some buying.

2. What was it like to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology?
FIT was amazing. But just like all my years of schooling, I wish I had given it 110%. I loved living in New York City. The energy of that city is unlike anything else. I got to meet a lot of cool people, go to really amazing events, and really learn about the aspects of the industry I loved.

3. How would you describe Maine style?
I think Maine style is something of a mixed bag. There are a lot of people who have a very classic, preppy look and right next to them will be someone dressed in true Mainer fashion, the rugged outdoor worker. The real Mainer look has recently been seen on runways and in high end stores but it's nothing like the people here who have to dress this way to do their daily jobs. And on the other spectrum, mostly in the portland area, you see people experimenting with a more fashion forward look, taking risks and having fun. I think Maine gets looked over as being a stylish place but it is really making a name for itself.
4. Who and where do you find inspiration for your own personal style?
I get inspiration from almost everything. Magazines, runways, but mostly from real people with real style. I like to mix the past and present and even take color palettes from works of art and the outdoors. I can take inspiration from anything that catches my eye and changes the way I feel.

5. Where are your favorite places to shop?
My favorite places to shop are thrift stores, vintage stores, especially goodwill! I love to find on trend or classic pieces that no one else is going to have. I like to take vintage and pair it with modern pieces and give things with a past a new story to tell. I also like Bliss, Black Parrot (more of an aspirational store), urban outfitters, anthropologie, madewell, j crew.
6. Where do you hope to see yourself in the future in terms of fashion?
In the future, I hope to have a shop and a creative space that can be used to give back to those in need. But for right now, I am having a lot of fun running the women's department at urban and growing as a merchant and stylist.
